Take Two—Comfort Café Double Pocket Pouches

You may remember about a week and a half ago when I posted an adorable Beau Chateau Double Pocket Pouch project created with the Simply Scored Diagonal Plate...

Well, I am truly loving this project, and since I wanted to do it with my Stamp Club this Friday, I needed to redo the project in Designer Series Paper that was new!  You can learn how to make this project at Dawn Olchefske's blog or get written step-by-step instructions at my other Double Pocket Pouch post. 

Take two...

The new Comfort Café DSP was perfect for these Two Cool projects! 

 

I chose two of the lovely patterns and discovered that the vine image in the Elements of Style stamp set worked very nicely as a coordinating stamp image for the 3x3" Mini Notes that fit inside.  That was the same set I used for take one for a completely different look!

The paper for project #1 features Soft Suede and Cajun Craze, and I added a touch of Midnight Muse accents for a little extra color!  I created four styles of 3x3" Mini Notecards that fit inside. All of the cards started with a base of 3x6" Very Vanilla card stock folded in half. Each also has a combination of circle or scallop punch layers to highlight the "for you" Elementa of Style sentiment.

 

Note #1 is stamped with the Elements of Style vine image colored with Soft Suede, Midnight Muse and Cajun Craze markers.  Midnight Muse stamped sentiment is punched with 1" Circle Punch, then layered on 1-1/4" Cajun Craze Circle punch.

Note #2 has a strip of coordinating DSP on Soft Suede card stock.  Sentiment is 1" Circle Punch, on Cajun Craze 1-1/4" Circle Punch, on Midnight Muse 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch.

Note #3 has the Soft Suede card stock base stamped with the Elements of Style vine image in Soft Suede.  The medallion stamp from Everything Eleanor was stamped with Midnight Muse, center punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch, then punched with the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch.  The center sentiment is punched with the 1" Circle Punch and layered on a 1-1/4" Cajun Craze Circle punch.

Note #4 has a strip of coordinating DSP on Soft Suede card stock.  Sentiment is 1" Circle Punch, on Cajun Craze 1-1/4" Circle Punch, on Midnight Muse 1-3/8" Circle Punch.

The second pouch features Soft Suede, Cajun Craze and Summer Starfruit colors.  The notes are very similar to the ones above, just substituting the Midnight Muse for either Summer Starfruit or Cajun Craze colors.

     

 

All of the notes have the sentiment popped up with Dimensionals in some way. 

     

For example, the scallop circles have the centers popped up, and the wreath-looking image is raised, while the center is sunk in for a little variety.

Sunday Showcase: Top 10 Too Cool New Catalog Items

So, how big is YOUR new catalog wishlist?  My is pretty extensive, as usual!  There are so many awesome new products is hard to decide what I "need" to get now, and what I can order later.  I had to go through my list several times, but I finally came up with the must-haves that simply couldn't wait!

1.  Firm-Foam Ink Pads—I love, love, LOVE the new ink pads and you will, too!  I promise!  I debated about whether to replace every color of ink pad for about 3 seconds. 

No warping.  No fraying edges.  No tapping, tapping, tapping the stamp all around the ink pad to get even coverage.  Just a light tapping of the stamp onto this spongy surface provides perfectly crisp, bold images, with solid ink coverage... 2.  Floral Frames Framelits & Daydream Medallions Stamps—OK, I can tell right now that, like Textured Impressions Folders, I'm gonna love every stinkin' framelit ever made!  Floral Frames is especially pretty with the gorgeous designs in the Daydream Medallions set. 

3. Every New Textured Impressions Folder—As mentioned above, I pretty much have to get every folder made. Now, I'm loving the new Chevron Folder and Argyle Folder for masculine cards!  Plus, the Fancy Fan Folder goes perfectly with lots of the new stamp images and patterns of paper. 

And, let's not forget about the beautiful Delicate Designs Folders for elegant, lacy-embossed borders that match all the trendy doily designs!  Love them all!  (See how I cheated big time on this one!  Can't be helped.)

   

4. Elegant Butterfly Punch & Papallon Potpouri—A good coordinating stamp and punch usually becomes a quick favorite, and this butterfly duo is a perfect example!  What an improvement over the old, plain butterfly shape!  The elegant wings will provide pretty accents to floral, frilly and vintage cards alike.  I can't wait to pair some punched Elegant Butterflies with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit textured die-cuts in coordinating colors.  Fun fluttering possibilities!

5.  Stampin' Trimmer—Stampin' Up! has combined all the best features into this personal paper trimmer!  It cuts and scores a full 12" sheet in either direction, and without ever having to remove or switch the two styles of blades!  They stay on the track!  The large 6-1/4" base extends to 14-1/2" to easily accomodate scrapbook pages!  Plus, there is convenient storage underneath for your extra blades and scoring stylus!

6. Stampin' Spritzer—It's just a little thing, but it will be so useful!  You know how I like to mix Champagne Shimmer Paint with rubbing alcohol for a spritz mix?  Well, now we have the mini spritzers that spray a fine mist of that mixture and more!  It will be fun to experiment with misting Refill Ink and masking techniques!  At only $2.95 for two, they are the perfect price to stock up for several colors! 

 

7. Comfort Café Designer Series Paper & Natural Composition Specialty Paper—I'm liking the selection of Designer Series Papers much more than in the past, because they seem to have more smaller patterns and more multicolored sheets.  I love the sheets with three or more colors that I wouldn't think to put together...it creates my project's color palette!  Comfort Café, with it's Midnight Muse, Cajun Craze, Pool Party and Soft Suede colors stole my creative heart quickly this year and has become my instant fave!

Then, there is the very interesting Natural Composition Specialty Paper.  Hmmm.  It's a heavy-weight natural paper with glossy, raised patterns.  Not sure about this one yet, but it may be fun for some emboss resist techniques.  We'll see once I get it in my hands.

         

8. Fun New Embellishments—Cheating again, because I can't list just one of the three new accents!  My favorite is the Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons that are reminiscent of old door knob pulls.  They appear to be similar to the retired Beveled Window Panes, only smaller, rounder, and cooler! 

Naturals Designer Buttons have the trendy look of pine and mahoghany woods.  I bet they would look amazing with the new Naturals Specialty Paper! 

Next, is the new In Color Dahlias which Stampin' Up! describes as "bright little wonders!"  I've heard that they are made of resin, but I'm not sure since I don't have them in my hand. Curious. Looking forward to seeing what they are all about! 

 

9. New Stitched Ribbons—Both the 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon and the 1/4" Stitched Grograin Ribbon are fresh and welcome additions to the ribbon selection.  I may need to get every single color!  Yep!

 

10. Little Labels Punch Pack & Lovely Little Labels Stamps—Why is "mini" always so cute?!  It really is!  This adorable duo of tiny punches and matching images will surely create some awww-some accents!  And, they coordinate with Tiny Tags, and Itty Bitty Bits, too!

11. Paper-Piercing Essentials, Piercing Mat & Piercing Tool—This combination of tools takes paper piercing to a whole new level!  Unique templates allow you to pierce straight lines, scallops, and circles, plus they also coordinate with Apothecary Accents Framelits and several shaped punches.  The large 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" piercing mat gives you plenty of room for piercing and doubles as a firm-foam stamping mat for crisp stamping results.

 

12. Apothecary Accents Framelits & Layered Labels Stamps—Woohoo!  More unique, decorative shapes to use for layering!  It will be fun to mix & match these with the Labels Framelits for lots of variation!  And, the matching Layered Labels stamps will create lovely stacked sentiments!

13. Bitty Banners Framelits & Itty Bitty Banners Stamps—Banners are very popular right now, and this duo will make it so easy to add a cute banner sentiment to cards and scrapbook pages!  So much easier than cutting those babies out!

Sometimes No Change Is Good! 

What hasn't changed in the new catalog is that all of the stamp images are still pictured at actual size, and all images that coordinate with a punch have a colored line around them for easy identification. Plus, the prices on the stamps, inks, papers and embellishments have all remained the same!  Woohoo!

For the final day of the catalog, I thought I'd go out with a bang!  So, instead of Two Cool cards...I did three!  I'm calling it Tres Cool!  Tee hee! 

All three cards feature the bold and beautiful floral image from the retiring Inspired By Nature stamp set.

I adore the beautiful distressed background of this card using the words from the retiring Charming set and the tea stain ink from the retiring Distressing Tool Kit.  You can see an awesome video tutorial on Tami White's blog, but I'll give you the steps of how I did my version.

Distressed Background How-Tos

• Start with a 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" piece of Very Vanilla card stock.
• Ink the Charming words with VersaMark and stamp three times, then heat emboss with Clear Embossing Powder.
• Ink the flat rubber stamp from the Distressing Kit with the Tea Stain Ink and gently rub over the embossed card stock.  I also rubbed the ink direct-to-paper for darker color around the words.
• You could also lightly spritz your card stock with water before inking for a different effect.

 

I tried another version of the distressed background with Watercolor Paper.  After embossing, and before inking, I spritzed the paper heavily with water and let the water soak in a bit.  Then, I stamped on the Tea Stain ink with the flat stamp.  You can see the background is a little more subtle in color, but still gorgeous!

Depending on where you emboss your words, you'll get a different look with the Inspired By Nature stamp.  The first card has very few words over the main flower, but this one has lots more words.

Watercolor Spritzed Flower How-Tos

• Color directly on the stamp with Always Artichoke, Not Quite Navy, and Early Espresso Markers.
• Lightly spray water, 2-3 fine mists at 15 inches away, on the colored stamp, then stamp it onto the card stock.
• Dab away excess water/ink.

I finished up the card by adding some flecks of Early Espresso ink with the Color Spritzer and a marker. 

Each card has a different ribbon using the retiring Chantilly Crochet Trim Ribbon.  One has a faux bow (tie & trim), one has a real bow, and this one is scrunched ribbon on top of a line of Sticky Strip. 

For more texture, I also added a layer of Very Vanilla card that had been run through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Impressions Folder.  Each one has a torn edge, but look what happened when I tore the last one...the "plus" shapes on the design made it easily tear into a pretty scallop shape!  Too Cool!

The sentiment is from the Fabulous Phrases set, double punched with the Word Window Punch.  I added retiring Mini Library Clips to two cards for a cute accent.

Tomorrow Is Final Day For Retiring Items!

Hurry—Tomorrow Is The Last Day!

Thursday, May 31, is the FINAL DAY to purchase Retired Stamps & Retired Accessories before they are officially retired!  After that, all of the retiring items will be GONE FOREVER!

My Last Thursdays class is also tomorrow, and we'll be using all retired sets!  Today's Two Cool cards, featuring the retiring Vintage Vogue and Sincere Salutations sets, represent one of the card designs we'll be creating!  See the other's on yesterday's post.

 

Vintage Vogue is the perfect set for beautiful random stamping and layering of images!  I mean, just look at how simple it was to create the artwork on this project!  I used three different stamps with three different colors on one 3-3/4" x 5" sheet of Whisper White card stock.

• Stamp three large flowers in Not Quite Navy in a "triangular" pattern.
• Add an odd number of smaller flowers in Baja Breeze stamped close to the larger flowers.
• Fill in the white spaces in-between with the vine image in Always Artichoke ink. 

After adding the Sincere Salutations sentiment in Not Quite Navy, you could stop right there and it would be lovely.  But, I added a few Rhinestone Jewels in the big flowers, and some of my already retired Always Artichoke 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon (it's amazing all the old stuff I'm finding as I'm cleaning out all the soon-to-retire stuff!).  

You can't see it very well, but I actually layered one stamped piece on Always Artichoke with a Not Quite Navy card base, and the other is layered on Not Quite Navy on an Always Artichoke base.  Mixin' it up, baby!

If you like flowers, you'll LOVE the cards we are creating this month!  There are so many beautiful flower stamp sets retiring, so I wanted to enjoy them one last time!  We'll be making the Fifth Avenue Floral and Flower Fest (choose your favorite color combo) cards shown above, another card that I'm still working on, plus the pretty Awash With Flowers card I'm featuring today...

These two cool cards feature the retiring Awash With Flowers stamps, on a retiring Pear Pizzazz card base, and a little bit of the retiring Cheerful Treat Designer Series Paper (hostess selection).  I didn't realize how much I enjoyed this set until I found out it was retiring.  So sad.

  

I stamped these two-step blooms on Whisper White card stock in Melon Mambo, retiring Peach Parfait, and So Saffron inks, with outline images in Basic Black.  I love how you don't have to worry about getting the two coordinating images lined up, because they don't match exactly anyway!  You can't mess it up!  The stems and leaves are colored with a Pear Pizzazz Marker. 

 

On the second card, I popped up three of the flowers for a more dimensional look.  I finished off the stamping with some flecks of Old Olive ink created with the Color Spritzer Tool and an Old Olive Marker.

The stamped piece is torn and layered on a torn piece of So Saffron.  A small piece of Cheerful Treat DSP lines the bottom along with some of the beautiful (and already retired) Pear Pizzazz Pleated Ribbon.  Sentiment is from the retiring Upsy Daisy set.
